Politics in Wisconsin as they roll up to every level... and some other thoughts that may cross my mind are explored here from my lefty point of view. My values shape my opinions. You'll always find them in here. Let's have some fun exploring why Liberal values are American values!

Crawford's Take on Tuesday April 1st Election

First and foremost! Get out and vote, call your friends and neighbors and make sure they vote, tell everyone you know that they need to vote on Tuesday.

Wisconsin has one of the oddest statistics in this country. We vote in numbers much higher than the national average in Presidential elections every 4 years and we vote in numbers that are disgracefully low in off years. In particular, our spring election turnouts are horrendous!!!

SO GET OUT AND VOTE TUESDAY APRIL 1ST!

Now, my list of the best and the brightest that we should have leading Wisconsin and Milwaukee in the next few years.

WI Supreme Court Justice Louis Butler for WI Supreme Court.
What can I say about Louie? Besides being a Wisconsin Supreme Court justice who knows his constitutional law, besides being a brilliant attorney and having YEARS of experience in the judicial system, besides the fact that he was the only candidate in this race to come out and ask ALL third party organizations (even the ones bashing his opponent) to stop the tv ads and let his message get through, besides the fact that he understands that corporation rights do not, should not and never will trump individual rights in our country, besides the fact that he's been stellar on the court siding with the LAW first and above all else...I could go on and on, but besides all that, Louie is a fun golfer, plays a mean game of sheepshead and I am proud and honored to call him my friend.

This is a non-partisan race. It has been run as a non-partisan race, but the influences of big money corporate WMC and other independent groups has been outrageous.

CORPORATIONS DON'T SPEND A TON OF MONEY TRYING TO EITHER GET YOU TO VOTE FOR OR AGAINST A POLITICIAN UNLESS THEY THINK HE OR SHE WILL BENEFIT THEM SIGNIFICANTLY AND NOT YOU!!! WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME A CORPORATION HAD YOUR BEST INTERESTS IN MIND???

My support for this man goes beyond political boundaries. Louis will uphold the law. That's the job description and that's what he will do. You cannot go wrong voting for Louis Butler. His only motivation for running is to uphold the law. That's the only motivation that should count. If you get out and vote for no other reason on Tuesday, this is the most important race (I could argue more important than the presidential election, but won't...) in the every day lives of Wisconsin residents. VOTE FOR LOUIS!

State Senator Lena Taylor for Milwaukee County Executive
Again a candidate I know and trust. Lena didn't have to take on Scott Walker. She didn't have to run a campaign at all this spring. She didn't have to spend the last 6 months doing doors, raising money and shaking hands. Lena is a well respected, fiery and bold State Senator. She could have stayed in that job for decades.

She has no outside motivation to run for this office except that she sees from a state's eye view the mess Walker has made of Milwaukee County government. Lena wants to fix it. Lena has a plan to fix it. Lena WILL fix it. She wants to be an advocate for all Milwaukee County residents at the state and federal levels. She wants to fight for the rights of the citizens of Milwaukee and she wants to work hard.

State Assembly Representative Pedro Colon for Milwaukee City Attorney
This seat has been held by Grant Langley for ages. He's not a bad guy, he's just really burned out and unwilling to do his job with the fervor it requires. Pedro is another brilliant State Senator who didn't have to take on this challenge. He sees a different Milwaukee and I want him to have the chance to make the office what it should be again.

Jeff Norman for Milwaukee Circuit Court judge district 40
Jeff's my candidate in this race. No bad feelings to his opponent, she's a nice enough woman, but unless you grow up and work in the communities who are most represented at the circuit court, it's really hard to have a full appreciation for the people you are dealing with... Jeff was raised in Milwaukee, has been a Milwaukee cop and detective for decades, teaches criminal justice and has a vision for the Milwaukee court system. I believe he will be a great judge who will be able to find that delicate balance between protecting the community and rehabilitation.

I'm not touching the Aldermanic district races (well except two... you gotta vote for Patrick Flaherty on the East Side...he rocks!!!), Henry Hamilton on the northwest side, and if you see a woman on your ballot for alderman, choose her! We need at least ONE on the Milwaukee Common Council!

So that's it! These are the races I care about most. These are the ones I'll be watching and these are the ones that could make a huge difference in the lives of all Milwaukeeans. These are the people I support and I hope you all will join with me statewide and actually get out to vote!!!

This race could NOT BE MORE IMPORTANT!!!
