Obama on this poll was steadily 5-7 points ahead of McCain in June and all the way until early July.
Then something really significant happened that a a lot of people have missed in it's potential significance to Obama's campaign...
Obama voted yes on the FISA/Telecom Immunity Bill on July 9th and his numbers suddenly go down to somewhere between even and +3 seemingly overnight. Except for a few days that may represent good news days for the Obama campaign. The polling has not returned to the 5-7 point range significantly ever since that vote...
- Could it be that for Americans that one vote represented the change they were expecting and that represented the same old caving as usual for no reason politics that we have come to despise?
- Could it be that more American's were paying attention to that vote than the Democrats who brokered that deal with the devil anticipated?
- Could it be that Pelosi and Reid misjudged the intelligence of the American public at just the wrong time and however inadvertantly sabotaged the Obama campaign relegating him to having to find a way to prove to us all that he really does represent the change we are demanding?
- Could it be that Americans hope was dashed for only a moment but just long enough for 2-5% to take another look at John McCain and take a step back from the enthusiam?
That may make all the difference in the world as to whether or not THIS election in November is close enough for the GOP to steal it again or just an outright undeniable landslide.
