Republican Defaces US Flags on Election Day

TITLE 36

CHAPTER 10

§176. Respect for flag

(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.

(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

All four flags are set up to touch the ground...

Of course, they have a right to do whatever they want with the flag, but it bothered my parents so much, I thought I'd point it out... All four flags out of respect for our country, should be burned in a flag burning ceremony.

While you are correct in asserting a flag should not touch the ground, you may wish to brush up on your ability to interpret the code: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/flagday/burnflag.asp

Renee, I'll gladly fess up to those being my inappropriately displayed flags, but as the comment above points out, they do NOT require disposal merely because they touched the ground. Furthermore, I'd probably treat your criticism as a bit more legitimate, at least in the sense that you are so concerned about proper flag display, if you were to level the same accusations against the several improperly displayed flags (touching the ground) accompanying Obama signs in the same neighborhood. Or, if you choose to walk only a few blocks from here, you'll see a flag inappropriately flying at half-mast and at a lower level than a UN flag in the same yard. Of course, there are plenty of those "Impeach Bush" and "End the War" signs in that yard, so I'm sure it's probably not of great a concern to you.

That was just a snarky comment about burning it... guess sarcasm doesn't always translate well in writing...

What really chapped my ass, is that the owner of the flag was asked last night to hoist them over the ground at least and refused to do so... It's one thing to do it accidentally, but when pointed out, it should have been corrected immediately which is why we took the pic and outed him for it...

I hate anony commenters btw... what's the point? This wasn't even a controversial comment! Why hide your identity?

Are you sure the half mast flag isn't to honor a specific fallen soldier? So cynical!

Or maybe I didn't see it... I hate when people disrespect the flag personally. They have a right to and I'd defend that right, but personally, it drives me crazy!

Most of my family fought to protect that flag. It should be respected and hung properly...
